Harding Test Failures

Before broadcast, visual media are subjected to the Harding Test to determine whether they may trigger an epileptic seizure. Here are some examples of clips that failed (i.e. will induce photosensitive epileptic seizures).

So i dled this album for the cover, stayed for the music. Mellowed out dub-step. Like water dripping on organs playing in a bat-filled cave in the caribbean with drums and claps.

Let's talk about ...

... how awesome Alec Empire is.

Now you're probably thinking 'omg, alec empire is too hardcore even for me' and the truth is: he is. But he's also got a mellow side and that stuff is just as cool.

Men of the Year

So, in case you weren't there - or if you were - last night was Free Speech Thursday at AS220 featuring Musician & Poet Open Mic. It was also the 'debut' of The Alan Sean Feinstein Men of the Year. While most of the performers were solo-artist singer/song write types spitting a lot of the same lyrics, this trio of audacious young men shattered the mold and closed the evening with two songs: the ever powerful Grizzly Bear (a song presumably about making love to vending machines) and the work-in-progress, foot-stomper Cinnamon Rolls. I'm not kidding when I say lightning bolts were shooting from the speakers and the audience was dancing in their chairs.

With Eric Hanson on the guitar, James Gagnon on the guitar and Chris Mulhearn on the guitar, audiences everywhere better be prepared to have a good time -and to rock their f'in eyes out!

Stuff White People Like #84: T-shirts

T-shirts fall into three categories: vintage, new, and unacceptable, with the latter category compromising the bulk of the world’s supply. Within each category lies another, more precise subset of rules and rankings. Make no mistake, this is complicated.

That Peruvian Flavor

Lawmakers defiantly chewed coca in Peru's Congress on Thursday while criticizing a U.N. recommendation to criminalize traditional uses of the plant.

"The coca leaf has existed for thousands and thousands of years. It's part of our agriculture, our food and our medicine. It's sacred," Congresswoman Hilaria Supa told Reuters before the start of Thursday's session.

Monetizing the Anarchy

Having failed to stop piracy by suing internet users, the music industry is for the first time seriously considering a file sharing surcharge that internet service providers would collect from users.

[The] idea is to collect a fee from internet service providers -- something like $5 per user per month -- and put it into a pool that would be used to compensate songwriters, performers, publishers and music labels.

Bag Ban

The city of Chicago is looking to ban the sale of little baggies (pictured above) calling them 'Marketing 101' for drug dealers. I think that's unfair. I can think of dozens of uses for little tiny plastic bags with drawings on them... Well maybe not 'dozens'. Okay, maybe one or two. But aren't they cute? ~via Chicago Sun-Times
