one of every 100

Using state-by-state data, the report says 2,319,258 Americans were in jail or prison at the start of 2008 — one out of every 99.1 adults. Whether per capita or in raw numbers, it's more than any other nation.

According to the report, the average annual cost per prisoner was $23,876, with Rhode Island spending the most ($44,860) and Louisiana the least ($13,009).

Four states — Vermont, Michigan, Oregon and Connecticut — now spend more on corrections than they do on higher education, the report said.

Project Reynard

"The cultural and behavioral norms of virtual worlds and gaming are generally unstudied. Therefore, Reynard will seek to identify the emerging social, behavioral and cultural norms in virtual worlds and gaming environments. The project would then apply the lessons learned to determine the feasibility of automatically detecting suspicious behavior and actions in the virtual world."

uh... ok

Word Problems

This music is so videogame-ish, it just makes sense that the Harmonic 313 website would have a videogame to play to win a download of an unreleased track.

Going down?

Dianogah is a Chicago, Illinois based indie rock outfit formed in 1995, noted for their use of two bass guitars. Dianogah's first full-length album, As Seen From Above, was recorded by Steve Albini. Mellow indie jams. Highly recommended.

Jay Electronica - Uzi Weighs a Ton

Very little info on this guy online, and he hasn't released anything official. You can listen to mostly everything Jay Electronica over at weapons of mass distraction. His beatless stuff over Eternal Sunshine samples are great.

Jeff Jordan

Jeff Jordan is an American surrealist painter.

His painting Big Mutant served as the cover artwork for the Mars Volta album Amputechture. Jordan also contributed the painting Agadez for their new album The Bedlam in Goliath. His painting Revelation was the backdrop for their recent show at Lupo's. (Above image: snake horse bassplayer.)
